Stanley County Community Outreach School us a public school for grades K-2, where additional grades will be added for the 2000-2001 school year. There is no tuition or students fees. The school is co-existing with the City of Albemarle and is using the E.E. Waddell Community Center. The governing board, which consists of a parent, teacher and community representative governs the school.
The Stanley County Community Outreach Charter School is dedicated to providing an environemnt where students are safe to explore, learn, and grow in order to become critical thinkers, communicators, and active citizens in the community. A core academic program combined with education and character-self esteem building is the focus to accomlish these goals.
The SOCS is using an approach to teaching and learning grounded in the belief that ares can p[lay a central role in how children learn. The teachers will be using the Arts+ program, which covers the North Carolina Standard Course of Study throught interdisciplinary thematic (integrating all subjects taught across the curriculum) units. These units are combined with with arts integration, hands-on, and experiential learning.
The school objectives are to develop a strong parntnership with parents, area businesses, and other community groups.
